Mr. Edgar L. Cowgill 1890s
In Historic Fairhaven - Sycamore Square Building
Mr.
Cowgill owned a quarter share of the building in 1889.
He and his partner Edward Wilson
negotiated with Dirty Dan (the founder of Fairhaven)
and purchased the Fairhaven townsite.
Aside from owning a quarter share of the building,
Cowgill managed both the laying out of
the Fairhaven and Southern Railroad
and the development of the Fairhaven townsite.
He was a lumber dealer and had his office on the third floor.
His house was one of the
firsts to be built in Fairhaven on the corner of 13th
and Harris (now a parking
lot). His house was moved to make room for an opera house that ultimately never got built. Cowgill even ended up marrying Dirty Dans sister-in-law. He now has a street named
after him in Fairhaven.
