Belcher, Swanson, Lackey, Doran, Lewis & Robertson, P.L.L.C.
donated the safe to Sycamore Square in June of 2000 after they moved to Dupont Street.
On the top ledge it reads Newman & Howard.  Knowing there was a Newman law firm
in Sycamore Square in 1890 makes me wonder if it was originally delivered to this building.

The original company, from 1867 to 1892 founded by Joseph L. Hall, a safe maker of repute.
Some time after that the business was sold to Herring-Hall-Marvin Safe Co. Edward, William,
and Charles (sons of Joseph L. Hall) formed a new corporation in September 1896, titled the Hall's Safe Company.
The Hall's Safe Company was then sued by Herring-Hall-Marvin Safe Co. over the 'trademarks" "HALL'S SAFE"
it went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court in January 30, 1908. Court decision was in favor of
HERRING-HALL-MARVIN SAFE CO. and the Hall brother could not continue with the company of The HALL'S SAFE COMPANY.
I am currently looking for more information about this safe and its owners.
